For example, if you have 3 courses each worth 3 credits with grades A (4.0), B+ (3.5), and B (3.0), your GPA would be: (3×4.0 + 3×3.5 + 3×3.0) / (3+3+3) = (12 + 10.5 + 9) / 9 = 31.5 / 9 = 3.5
